We’re thrilled to share that Code School’s co-founder, Sadaf Rehman, has been named a winner in the Emerging STEM Educator category at the 2025 SheCanCode STEM Educator Awards, a global recognition of educators who are transforming how young people, especially girls, access and experience STEM education.
The SheCanCode STEM Educator Awards celebrate individuals who are not only excellent teachers but also changemakers. They are educators building inclusive, inspiring, and impactful pathways into science, technology, engineering, and math. With hundreds of nominations from across the globe, the final cohort of winners includes just a handful of educators, each championing innovation and equity in their own part of the world.
Code School is proud to be the only Pakistani organisation recognised in this year’s awards.
“This recognition is deeply meaningful,” said Sadaf Rehman. “We launched Code School to reimagine coding education, not as a dry, after-school skill, but as a joyful, empowering experience every child deserves access to. Winning this award shows that our work resonates beyond borders.”
Sadaf was nominated by longtime supporters and collaborators Farah Ali and Rabea Malik, both of whom believed her journey deserved global visibility. The nomination highlighted Code School’s rapid growth, reaching students in 20 countries, and its commitment to teaching real coding skills through game-based projects, strong pedagogy, and a community-centered model.
The voting process brought in overwhelming support from educators, parents, and allies across Pakistan and the diaspora. We’re especially grateful to everyone who took the time to vote, advocate, and amplify.
About Code School
Code School offers live, online coding classes for children ages 6 to 16, with a focus on creativity, fun, and real-world skill building. From building original games to exploring data science and AI, students progress through a thoughtfully designed curriculum that balances technical depth with accessibility.
What makes Code School different is its intentional focus on inclusion. We work with both low-income communities and global learners, design content for children with limited English proficiency, and invest in non-traditional teachers who are trained through our own pedagogy framework.
The Bigger Picture
While this recognition celebrates individual leadership, it also shines a spotlight on the broader challenge. Nearly 1.8 billion children worldwide still don’t learn how to code, despite its growing relevance in today’s world. Schools remain under-equipped, coding is often introduced too late, and girls, especially in South Asia, continue to be underrepresented in tech from the earliest years.
This award is a reminder that early, engaging, and inclusive coding education isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity.
We’re honoured to stand alongside global educators who are pushing for change. And we’re just getting started.
